Visiting and using this website

These terms cover Turn Lantern, its website and in-person activities at Suite 15, Level 1, 158 High Street, Christchurch Central, Christchurch, New Zealand. Read the current menu and regular schedule when planning your visit. Questions and complaints can be raised through our public contact.

Free entry and games

Entry to the whole venue, board games, the casino room, organised sessions and tournaments is free. There is no hourly charge, table fee, paid membership, deposit, minimum spend or required food or drink order.

Cafe food and non-alcoholic drinks are sold separately at the final NZD prices on the menu and prices page. Buying anything is voluntary and does not affect access to games, the supply of playing chips, results or participation conditions.

Enquiries and the weekly programme

A regular visit does not need advance registration. An advance enquiry is recommended for organised sessions so that staff can discuss arrangements. Sending the form is a request, not an automatic reservation or a grant of exclusive use of the casino room. Any place or special arrangement requires a staff reply.

The weekly programme gives recurring session times and opening hours in Christchurch local time. Roulette and bingo are available casually during opening hours; ask staff to help organise a bingo group. Please contact us about public holidays or a change to a planned visit.

Casino-room play

Casino-room games take place face to face using the venue’s game equipment. No real money, property or other valuables may be staked, including private bets or side arrangements between visitors. Staff will stop such arrangements.

There are no cash winnings or prizes with material value. This includes goods, food, drinks, discounts, gift certificates and benefits with exchange value. Results are for the game itself.

Playing chips and points are provided free. They are not sold, bought back, redeemed, transferred for value or exchanged for money, goods, services or benefits. They are used only to play and determine the game result. A cafe purchase cannot increase a player’s allocation or change the conditions of play.

The website offers no online gambling, wallets, deposits, withdrawals or links to money casinos. Staff may stop a game or ask a visitor to leave if these rules are breached.

Casino-room age policy: 20+. This is the venue’s internal rule, not a statement of the statutory age for New Zealand casinos. Please contact us with a question about this policy.

Alcohol and behaviour

Alcohol is prohibited throughout the venue. It cannot be ordered, brought in or consumed here. People who are intoxicated will not be admitted.

Treat other visitors and staff respectfully, follow table instructions and handle games and equipment with care. Ask before joining an ongoing game. Harassment, threats, damage and disruptive conduct may result in staff stopping play or asking a person to leave. Tell staff promptly about a problem or an unsafe situation.

Food, drinks and consumer rights

Ask about ingredients and shared preparation before buying if you have a dietary need or allergy. Dietary labels are a guide to the recipe, not a guarantee that cross-contact cannot occur.

If a purchase is not as it should be, tell us so we can consider the appropriate remedy. These terms do not exclude or limit rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act and Fair Trading Act.

Website use and updates

Use the contact form for genuine enquiries. Do not attempt to disrupt the website, bypass its security or submit another person’s information without an appropriate reason and authority.

We may update future menu prices, regular sessions and these terms. The date above identifies this version. An update does not retrospectively change an arrangement already agreed with you or remove applicable rights. Contact us to resolve a discrepancy before relying on it for a visit.
